I’m in a bit of a pickle and could use some help. While shopping at a big department store in Osaka, I decided to try my luck with their lottery. Imagine my shock when I hit the jackpot on my last spin!
The prize is this huge Red Roof Country House set with cute squirrel figures. It’s awesome, but there’s no way I can take it home. I’m only here for a few more days and it’s way too big for my luggage.
Does anyone have ideas on what I could do with this prize? Maybe there’s a local who’d love to have it? Or some other creative solution? I’d hate to see it go to waste.
congrats on the win! thats a tough spot. maybe ask if theres a way to trade it for somethin smaller? or see if any hostels or guesthouses nearby want it for their common room. could make someones stay more fun. if not, donating to a orphanage woud be cool too. good luck!
Congratulations on your unexpected win! That’s quite a predicament you’ve found yourself in. Having faced similar situations during my travels, I can offer a few suggestions based on personal experience.
One option to consider is inquiring about the store’s return policy. Some establishments may allow you to exchange the prize for store credit or smaller items that are more manageable for travel. This approach worked for me once in a similar scenario.
Alternatively, you could explore local charities or community centers in Osaka. Many organizations would be delighted to receive such a generous donation, and it could make a significant impact on someone’s life. i’ve found this to be a rewarding way to handle unexpected windfalls while abroad.
Whatever you decide, remember that the experience and story you’ve gained are equally valuable. best of luck with your decision, and enjoy the rest of your time in Osaka!
Wow, talk about lucky! That’s such an awesome win, but I totally get your dilemma. Been there, done that with oversized souvenirs, haha.
Have you thought about checking if the store offers shipping services? Some bigger places in Japan can arrange to send bulky items overseas. Might cost a bit, but could be worth it if you’re really in love with that Country House set.
Another idea - why not spread the joy? You could ask the staff if there’s a local children’s hospital or community center that might appreciate a donation. It’d be a super sweet way to leave a little piece of your luck behind in Osaka.
Or hey, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could always post about it on local social media. Maybe there’s an expat group or international students who’d be thrilled to take it off your hands. Could even make a new friend in the process!
Whatever you decide, congrats on the win! That’s gonna be a story to tell when you get home, prize or no prize.
