Childhood treasure hunt turns into jackpot
Back in the 80s when I was about 12 my friend and I would skateboard around looking for cool stuff. One day we decided to check out some dumpsters near an old office building. We were hoping to find materials for a treehouse but instead we stumbled upon bags full of scratched lottery tickets.
We grabbed as many as we could carry and took them to my friend’s garage. As we sorted through them we realized they were all winners. Even better some hadn’t been marked as used.
My friend’s dad helped us cash them in at a local store. I remember him being pretty excited about our find. We went back to that dumpster a couple more times before they put a lock on it.
In the end we each walked away with over $1000 that summer. You can bet we bought some sweet new skateboards. Funny how a random adventure can lead to such an unexpected payday!
dude thats crazy luck! reminds me of the time i found a bunch of old baseball cards in my grandpas attic. thought i struck gold but turns out they werent worth much lol. still a cool story tho. did u ever go back to check that dumpster again? couldve been a goldmine!
Wow, what a wild ride!
That’s the kind of childhood adventure movies are made of. Dumpster diving turned treasure hunt, haha! I can just imagine you guys zooming around on your skateboards, feeling like total bosses with your newfound riches.
Y’know, it’s funny how stuff like that sticks with you. I bet every time you see a lottery ticket now, you get a little grin thinking back to that summer. Ever wonder what would’ve happened if you’d kept digging in that dumpster? Maybe there was a winning Powerball ticket buried at the bottom!
But seriously, that’s such a cool memory to have. Bet it made you the most popular kid at the arcade for a while. Did you ever tell your parents about it? I can just picture trying to explain that one at the dinner table!
That’s quite a remarkable story! its amazing how childhood curiosity can lead to unexpected windfalls. your experience reminds me of a similar situastion from my youth, though not quite as lucrative. my friends and i once stumbled upon a cache of old comic books in an abandoned storage unit. while we didn’t strike it rich, we did discover some valuable collectibles that we were able to sell for a decent sum.
it’s interesting to consider the ethical implications of such finds. while the lottery tickets were discarded, one might argue there could be legal considerations. nonetheless, it’s a fascinating tale of youthful adventure and serendipity. i’m curious if that experience shaped your views on luck or risk-taking in later life?
