Hey everyone,
I just heard something weird about that Elon Musk petition thing. You know, the one where they said they’d give a random signer a million bucks? Well, it turns out it’s not actually illegal like we thought.
Apparently, they’re saying it’s not a lottery because the winners were ‘preselected’ somehow. I’m kinda confused about how that works. Does anyone know more about this? How can it be random if people were picked beforehand?
It feels like a loophole or something. I’m curious what you guys think about this. Is it fair? Legal? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this whole situation.
Thanks for any info you can share!
I’ve been following this story closely, and it’s definitely an interesting legal maneuver. From what i understnd, the key distinction lies in the concept of ‘preselection.’ Essentially, they likely chose a pool of potential winners before the petition even started, rather than randomly selecting from all signers afterwards.
This approach skirts around lottery laws because technically, not everyone who signed had an equal chance of winning. It’s a bit of a grey area, legally speaking, but it seems to be enough to avoid classification as a traditional lottery.
While it may be technically legal, it does raise some ethical questions. It’s not quite as straightforward or transparent as many might have assumed. ultimately, it highlights the complexities of promotional giveaways and how companies navigate legal restrictions.
I’d be curious to see if this approach becomes more common in future promotions, or if it’ll face more scrutiny going forward.
Hey there!
Wow, that’s a really interesting twist on the whole Musk petition thing! I gotta say, it does sound a bit fishy to me. Like, how can you preselect winners for something that hasn’t happened yet?
From what I understand, they might have set up some criteria beforehand to narrow down potential winners. Maybe they picked certain zip codes or age ranges or something? But you’re right, it does feel like they’re trying to wriggle out of the lottery laws on a technicality.
I’m no lawyer, but I bet this is gonna raise some eyebrows. It’s kinda clever, but also feels a bit… sneaky? I mean, if I signed that petition thinking I had a fair shot at winning, I’d be pretty bummed to find out some people had better odds from the start.
Wonder if this’ll hold up if someone decides to challenge it. Or maybe other companies will start using this trick too? Either way, it’s definitely not as straightforward as they made it sound at first.
Thanks for bringing this up - it’s got me really curious now! Gonna keep an eye on how this plays out for sure.
yea, that’s pretty sketchy. sounds like they’re just tryin to avoid legal trouble. i mean, how can u preselect winners for somthing that hasn’t happened? doesnt make sense. probly just musk being musk, tbh. wonder if anyone’s gonna call em out on it or if theyll get away with it
