Hey everyone, I need some advice on a silly bet I made with my kid. We were heading out to do our weekly grocery run when my son suddenly said, “Dad, I bet I can wave my hand more than 10 times while we’re shopping!” I couldn’t resist and agreed to the challenge. Now I’m wondering, what’s a fair way to keep track of this? Should I count every little hand movement, or only when he waves at someone? And what should the prize be if he wins? It’s all in good fun, but I want to make sure we have clear rules. Has anyone else had experience with these kinds of impromptu family bets? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Haha, that’s such a cute bet! I love how you’re turning grocery shopping into a fun game. For counting, maybe go with obvious waves - like when he’s clearly trying to get someone’s attention or say hi. That way it’s not just any random hand movement. And hey, why not make it a bit trickier? He’s gotta get at least 3 people to wave back!
As for the prize… how about letting him be the ‘Snack King’ for a week? He gets to pick out a special treat each day. Or maybe he earns some extra screen time? Just keep it light and fun, ya know?
BTW, my kids and I do silly stuff like this all the time. It really makes errands way more enjoyable. Last time we had a ‘who can spot the most red items’ contest. Grocery store turned into a scavenger hunt!
Good luck with the wave-off! Let us know how it goes!
sounds like a fun challenge! for tracking, i’d suggest counting only deliberate waves at people, not every little hand movement. that keeps it fair and focused. maybe set a goal of 10 successful waves where someone actually responds back? that adds a bit of extra challenge.
for the prize, how about letting your son be the ‘assistant chef’ for a meal? he could help plan the menu and assist with cooking. it’s a good way to spend time together and teach some kitchen skills.
i’ve done similar things with my kids. once we had a ‘spot the weirdest item’ contest at the store. it definitely made shopping more entertaining! just remember to keep it lighthearted and enjoyable for both of you.
haha that’s a fun bet! maybe count waves only when he actually waves at someone, or u could make it harder by sayin he has to get ppl to wave back. for a prize, how bout lettin him pick a special snack or choose the movie for family night? just keep it light n fun!
