Controversy at WSOPP: US poker pro risks elimination over traditional Middle Eastern headwear

I just heard some crazy news about the World Series of Poker Paradise Super Main Event. Apparently, a top American player might get kicked out for his choice of headgear.

Does anyone know what’s going on? I heard it was Justin Bonomo and he was wearing a keffiyeh. Why would that be such a big deal? Aren’t players allowed to wear what they want?

I’m confused about the rules here. Is there some dress code I don’t know about? Or is this about something else entirely?

It seems like a pretty extreme reaction to disqualify someone over a scarf. Has anything like this happened before in poker tournaments?

I’d love to hear from other poker fans about this. What do you think is really going on here?

wow thats crazy bout bonomo! never heard of a player gettin kicked for clothes before. maybe theres more goin on behind the scenes? could be some cultural thing we dont know bout. hope they sort it out quick, be a shame to lose a top player over a scarf. wonder if other pros will speak up bout this?

this situation with justin bonomo at wsopp is indeed perplexing. from what i’ve gathered, there isn’t typically a strict dress code at poker tournaments, especially regarding headwear. it’s possible there might be some cultural sensitivity issues at play here, given the location and the specific type of headwear.

however, disqualification seems like an extreme measure for something like this. i wonder if there’s more to the story that hasn’t been made public yet. perhaps there was a miscommunication or a specific rule for this event that bonomo wasn’t aware of.

in my experience following poker tournaments, i’ve seen players wear all sorts of things without issue. this seems like an unusul case that could set a concerning precedent if not handled carefully. it’ll be interesting to see how the wsopp officials justify their decision and what impact this might have on future events.

Whoa, this Justin Bonomo situation is wild! :open_mouth: I’ve been following poker for years and never heard of anything quite like this. Kicking someone out over a keffiyeh? That’s next level.

You know, I’m wondering if there’s some local law or cultural thing we’re not seeing here. The Middle East can be pretty strict sometimes. But still, it seems crazy to risk losing a top player over headwear.

Maybe Bonomo was trying to make some kind of statement? Or it could just be a big misunderstanding. Either way, the WSOPP folks better have a darn good explanation for this, or they’re gonna have a PR nightmare on their hands.

Anyone else think this might be about more than just the scarf? Could there be some behind-the-scenes drama we don’t know about?

Whatever’s going on, I hope they sort it out quick. Would be a shame to see a great player miss out over something so silly. Let’s see how this all unfolds!
