Hey everyone, I just heard something that blew my mind. Apparently, back in 2010, you could actually win items for Team Fortress 2 by playing poker games. Is this for real? I can’t wrap my head around it. How did it work? Was it official or some kind of underground thing? It seems so weird to mix poker with TF2 items. Did any of you guys experience this or know someone who did? I’m super curious about the whole setup. Like, what kind of items could you win? Were they rare or just common stuff? Man, gaming culture was wild back then! Share your stories if you know anything about this!
yea man, i remeber those days. it wasnt official valve stuff, but there were some sketchy poker sites that let u gamble tf2 items. mostly hats n weapons, nothin too crazy. it was pretty risky tho, lots of scams goin around. probly better they shut that down tbh
Indeed, those poker games for TF2 items were a real phenomenon back in 2010. I recall a friend who got deeply involved in that scene. It was entirely unofficial and operated in a legal grey area. Various third-party websites facilitated these games, allowing players to wager their TF2 inventories.
The items at stake ranged from common weapons to highly coveted unusuals and rare promos. However, the risks were substancial. Many players lost valuable items due to rigged games or outright scams. Valve eventually took notice and began cracking down on these operations.
Looking back, it’s fasinating to see how the tf2 economy evolved and how players found creative (albeit questionable) ways to trade and aquire items. It’s certainly a unique chapter in the game’s history, though I’m glad it’s no longer prevalent due to the potential for exploitation.
Oh man, those were some wild times in the TF2 community! I didn’t personally get into the poker scene, but I had a buddy who was super into it. He’d come to school bragging about winning some sweet unusual hat or a bunch of keys.
It was definitely unofficial stuff, just players setting up their own games and using items as currency. Kinda crazy when you think about it now. Apparently there were even some dedicated sites for it, but like Skyler said, it was pretty sketchy.
I remember my friend losing his prized Burning Team Captain in one of those games. He was crushed for weeks! Looking back, it’s probably a good thing Valve cracked down on that whole scene. Too many kids getting caught up in gambling, you know?
Still, it’s a wild bit of TF2 history. Makes you wonder what other crazy stuff was going on back then that we’ve forgotten about!
