Newbie poker player here - did I just score a win?

Hey everyone! I’m super new to poker and still trying to figure out all the rules. I played a hand earlier today and I think I might have won, but I’m not 100% sure. Can someone help me understand if I actually won or if I’m just getting ahead of myself?

I had a pair of queens and the flop came out with another queen. Is that good enough to win? There were a couple of other players in the hand too. I’m still learning how to read the board and figure out who has the best hand.

Any tips for a beginner would be awesome too! I’m having a blast learning this game but there’s so much to take in. Thanks in advance for any help!

Congratulations on your first significant hand! A set of queens is indeed a formidable combination. However, determining a win isn’t straightforward without knowing the complete board and your opponents’ hands.

In poker, context is crucial. The strength of your hand can vary depending on the community cards and what other players might be holding. While a set of queens is often a winning hand, especially in lower-stakes games, it’s not guaranteed.

As you continue playing, you’ll develop a better sense of hand strength and reading the board. It’s a skill that comes with experience. My advice would be to focus on understanding pot odds and position play. These concepts will significantly improve your game.

remember, poker is a journey of continuous learning. Enjoy the process and don’t be discouraged by occasional setbacks. keep practicing and you’ll see improvement over time.

Hey there, welcome to the wonderful world of poker! Congrats on your first big hand!

A set of queens (that’s what we call it when you have a pair in your hand and another one on the board) is definitely a strong hand. But here’s the thing - whether it’s good enough to win really depends on what the other players have and what else is on the board.

Without knowing the full board and what your opponents were holding, it’s hard to say for sure if you won. But I can tell you that a set is often a winning hand, especially for beginners playing at lower stakes.

Don’t worry too much about figuring it all out right away. Poker’s a game that takes time to master. Just keep playing, have fun, and you’ll pick things up as you go. Maybe try watching some poker videos online or reading a beginner’s guide to help you along.

And hey, if you did win, awesome job! Celebrate those early victories - they’re what keep us coming back to the felt. Good luck out there!
