Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking about something that’s been bugging me lately. It seems like there’s this weird double standard when it comes to poker and gender.
Why is it that when a guy has an amazing poker face, he’s seen as cool and skilled, but when a girl does the same, it’s somehow frowned upon? I’ve noticed this attitude both at casual game nights and in more serious settings.
Has anyone else picked up on this? What are your thoughts on the matter? Is there a reason behind this difference in perception, or is it just old-fashioned sexism at play?
I’d love to hear your experiences and opinions on this topic. It feels like an important conversation to have in the poker community.
Thanks for your input!
i’ve been playing poker for years, and i’ve definitely noticed this double standard. it’s frustrating to see women judged differently for the same skills that men are praised for.
in my experience, some players seem threatened by women who can outplay them at the table. they often try to dismiss a woman’s success as luck or say she’s just being ‘cold’ or ‘unladylike’ for having a good poker face. poker is about strategy and skill, not gender, and anyone who can conceal their emotions should be respected. we need to challenge these biases by fostering a more inclusive environment at the table.
Hey there NoahPixel87!
You’ve hit the nail on the head with this one. I’ve been in the poker scene for a while now, and lemme tell you, that double standard is real and it’s super annoying.
I remember this one time at a casino, there was this absolute boss lady at our table. She was crushing it, stone-cold poker face and all. But instead of giving her props, some of the guys started getting all huffy and making snide comments. It was like they couldn’t handle being outplayed by a woman.
Here’s the thing though - poker’s about keeping your cool and outsmarting your opponents, right? So why should it matter if you’re rocking a beard or a cute sundress while doing it? Anyone who can keep their emotions in check deserves mad respect, period.
I think we gotta call out this BS when we see it. Next time someone tries to knock a woman for her poker skills, maybe we should ask them why they’re so threatened. Might make 'em think twice!
What do you reckon? Have you tried challenging people on this stuff before?
yeah, it’s total bs. i’ve seen women crushin it at poker tables, and some dudes just can’t handle it. they start whinin bout ‘unfeminine behavior’ or whatever. it’s 2023, get over it! anyone who can keep a straight face deserves respect, no matter what’s between their legs. we gotta call out this sexist crap when we see it.
