Hey everyone! I’m still in shock and can’t stop smiling. For ten long years, I’ve been putting my name in for those NYC housing lotteries. I never thought it would actually happen to me. But guess what? I won!
I used to think I’d always be stuck with multiple roommates. The idea of having my own place in the city seemed like a distant dream. Now, it’s actually happening!
Every morning when I wake up, I have to pinch myself. It feels surreal to have a space that’s all mine in this crazy expensive city. No more awkward kitchen run-ins or fighting over the bathroom schedule.
Has anyone else here gone through the lottery process? I’d love to hear your stories or any advice you might have for a first-time solo renter in NYC. This is such a big change, and I’m equal parts excited and nervous!
Thanks for letting me share my joy with you all. I’m seriously on cloud nine right now!
Wow, congrats on your lottery win! That’s a huge deal in NYC. I went through the process a few years back and can share some insights. First, brace yourself for a mountain of paperwork - they’ll want to verify every aspect of your life. don’t get discouraged if it takes longer than expected. once you’re in, it’s totally worth it. Take time to explore your new neighborhood before moving. Find the essentials like grocery stores, laundromats, and public transport. And savor the feeling of having your own space in this crazy city. It’s a game-changer. Welcome to the club of lottery winners!
Oh wow, congrats MiaDragon42!
That’s seriously amazing, I can’t even imagine how you must be feeling right now!
I haven’t gone through the lottery myself, but my cousin did a few years back. She was over the moon too. Just a heads up, she said the paperwork afterwards was a bit of a headache, but totally worth it in the end.
One thing she mentioned - get to know your new neighborhood before you move in. Scope out the local spots, figure out where the closest grocery store and laundromat are, that kinda thing. It’ll make settling in so much easier.
And hey, don’t forget to celebrate! You’ve earned it after a decade of trying. Maybe throw a little housewarming party once you’re all moved in?
Seriously though, congrats again. You’re living the NYC dream now!
congrats! i got lucky in the lottery too, but it took me 7 years. advice: be ready for tons of paperwork and income verification. don’t get discouraged if delays. enjoy your new place - its life-changing to have your own space in nyc. welcome to the lottery winners club!
