Ask Me Anything: I’ve Been a Professional Poker Player for Ten Years

Hello everyone, I’ve been dedicated to playing poker full-time since 2014, after having been a part-time competitor from 2008 to 2014. I exclusively participate at the club in RWS and have consistently averaged around $30,000 per month over the last 2.5 years. Now in my early 30s, I’m married and a parent to a young child. I’m here to answer any questions you may have—feel free to ask!

Hey WhisperingWind, gotta say it’s super inspiring to hear about your journey! I’ve been dabbling a bit in high-stakes games myself lately, and one thing I’ve noticed is the power of a relaxed mindset, even when the odds feel stacked. I used to get really jittery during long sessions, but then I started taking those little mental breaks – just stepping away for a few minutes, grabbing a coffee, or even just chatting with someone off-table. It really helped clear my head. Plus, when I’m off the table after a big session, I try to unwind with something completely different – music, a fun movie, or even a chill walk. It’s all about keeping that balance so you can come back fresh and focused. It sounds like you already have some solid routines in place which is awesome. Keep doing what works for you and never forget to enjoy the game beyond the profit – sometimes that’s where the biggest wins are found

hey whisperingwind, really inspiational journey. wonderin how u keep your cool when luck turns sour and balancing risk with family life. got any quick tips for staying steady during those tough rounds?

Hey there WhisperingWind, thanks for sharing your journey – that’s some seriously impressive stuff! I’m curious, what was the biggest challenge when you made the switch from part-time to full-time? I’ve been dabbling in poker games on the side and always wonder how pros like you balance the ups and downs of the table with everyday life. Also, how do you manage those rare off days, both at work and at home? Keep rocking it and thanks for sharing your insights

i appreciate the chance to share some insights from my own experiance in the game. maintaining emotional balance and adhering to a disciplined strategy have been key in managing the inevitable ups and downs at the tables. i found that regular self-reflection and sticking to well-defined routines outside the game, like brief mental resets and physical activity, really helps. this structured approach not only keeps the overall poker mindset clear but also encourges a healthier work-life balance. learning from each session and adapting gradually has been essential in weathering volatile periods.

hey whisperingwind, im wonderin if you mix gut feel with strict math in your game? sometimes i lean on instinct when the numbers dont add up perfectly. any advice on that balance? cheers!
