Are certain Kroger supermarkets adding gambling machines?

Hey everyone, I heard something weird the other day and I’m not sure if it’s true. A friend told me that some Kroger stores are putting slot machines inside. Has anyone else heard about this or seen it? I’m really curious if this is actually happening or if it’s just a rumor. It seems pretty strange for a grocery store to have gambling machines. If it’s true, I wonder how they’re getting away with it and what the rules are. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

yep, saw this in indiana last week. wasnt like full-on casino but they had these kiosk things near the exit. kinda weird seeing ppl gamblin while shoppin for milk lol. not sure how i feel bout it tbh. guess kroger tryin to make extra $$ somehow

Oh man, I’ve actually seen this with my own eyes! :open_mouth: Was grabbing some groceries at a Kroger in Ohio last month and did a double-take when I spotted a little gaming area tucked away near the customer service desk. It’s not like full-on Vegas style slots or anything, but they had these touchscreen lottery machines where you can play instant games.

Gotta say, it felt kinda weird seeing people feeding cash into machines right next to the produce section! From what I overheard, it’s some partnership with the state lottery commission to boost sales. Personally, I’m not a big fan - seems like a slippery slope mixing grocery shopping and gambling. But I guess time will tell if it catches on or not.

Anyone else stumbled across this in their local Kroger? Curious to hear what others think about it!

I’ve actually come across this phenomenon recently. While visiting family in kentucky, I noticed a small area in the local kroger with electronic gaming machines. They weren’t exactly slot machines, but similar lottery-style games. Apparently, it’s part of a pilot program in certain states where gambling laws are more relaxed. The machines are typically operated by the state lottery commission, not kroger directly. It’s still pretty uncommon though - I’ve only seen it in a handful of stores. The idea is to boost lottery revenue and attract more customers, but it’s definitely controversial. some people worry about normalizing gambling in everyday settings. it’ll be interesting to see if this trend expands or faces backlash.
